Cake Pops

I have been a fan of the Bakerella blog for a number of years after coming across her cookies in a jar mixture, she however makes amazing Cake Pops which I have admired for ages, however after the Rescue Chopper Open Day where we bought a Cake Pop, I have been wanting to make my own.

So with a family function on today, I decided to make some and here is the finished product:

There were some others in the container next to it, as I couldn’t stand them all up.

They were very popular with the guests, but did take quite a while to make, so they are definitely a very special occasion making.

I will share some of the issues I had with them later.

Easter Weekend

Our Easter Weekend was busy, after returning from Sydney on Thursday evening on Friday we went to Church and heard an awesome sermon from a guy we (DH & I) met at Uni on the Mission of Man.

We then headed to Mountain Trails for a couple of days to help in the kitchen which was an awesome time spending time with some old friends and getting to know some others better. DS had lots of fun – helping (usually by carrying items to/from the barn and getting things out of the fridge), riding his bike and jumping on the trampoline. On Sunday one of his good friends came out and he had lots of fun with her. DS also got to sit on a horse, which was one step further then last time we went out, he didn’t want to go anywhere once he got on, but he was happy to sit their for a while. Unfortunately there aren’t any photos because my phone was flat and I didn’t have the camera with me.

We came home late Sunday and spent Monday visiting my family including spending some time with my sister, and trying to get the house in some sort of order before the week.

A day in Sydney

After the Concert DH and I spent the night in Sydney while DS had a sleep over at Nanna’s and Grandpa’s. After a nice uninterrupted nights sleep, and a lay in bed in the morning (unfortunately not a sleep in due to power tools next door), we caught the river cat along the Parramatta River into town. I love spending time on Sydney Harbour, living in a landlocked city, there is something nice and calming about travelling on a ferry.

However once we got their I didn’t feel 100% between my ears ringing from the concert, not enough sleep and the swaying on the boat, so we visited the Museum of Contemporary Art and watched The Clock, which linked the current time with a reference to time in a movie, it was very well done and the bit we watched I didn’t recognise a lot of the movies, but there were a couple including Titanic.

We then walked around the waterfront to the upgraded Walsh’s Bay area where we had lunch which was nice.

Concert

For the first time in a VERY long time I went to a Concert, not being much of a concert goer this was very unusual. DH and I along with a good friend from Uni days and another good friend of hers (who I also know from uni). Went to the Worship Encounter Concert at Hillsong in Sydney or as we called it the Michael W. Smith Concert.

I was so looking forward to it as I have been a Michael W. Smith Fan for years, at that part of the concert did not disappoint, the other 2 acts were pretty good.
The first act was Ernie Haase + Signature Sound, who I had not heard of prior to the concert and they were pretty good. I wouldn’t normally listen to their style of music (gospel quartet), but I did enjoy hearing them sing.
There was then intermission and then who we had been waiting to see – Michael W. Smith.

And he did not disappoint, it was awesome to hear him play and worship God with him. His act went for about 1 hour and he played plenty of songs, I would of loved to hear more though. He did make the comment though that if you wanted to hear all the songs he has released there are about 160 of them and it would take about 6 hours, if he did play for that long it would be awesome.
It would take a lot of energy though as I noticed all the guys got very hot and sweaty.

The last act was Mercy Me, who I knew a few of their songs but wasn’t that familiar with their music. But they were fantastic, although loud.

Their new song, The Hurt and The Healer sounded awesome.

Overall the evening was fantastic.

Rescue Chopper Open Day

Last weekend in addition to seeing The Lorax and visiting the local police station, on Sunday after Church I took DS to the Local Rescue Chopper open day.

DS had a great time seeing the sightseeing helicopters taking off:
 climbing over the rescue chopper,
climbing over fire engines, and using the fire hose,
seeing more police cars, visiting the petting zoo and for a calm activity some colouring in.
It was a fun couple of hours.

Police Station Open Day

The local police station recently moved into a new building and yesterday they had an open day so I took DS along. It was very busy, It took over 20 minutes to just get in to the building and then you followed a line through the police station which is very new and modern. After the walk through of the station out the back there were lots of displays and stands. DS had lots of fun sitting in/on things, including police car, jet ski and paddy wagon. He also got to chat to Kenny Koala:

Tried on a Police Vest:And got to seen many different parts of Police Machinery including the Bearcat:

There were heaps of people there and DS even saw one of his friends from church.

The Lorax

We had some movie money to use up so DH & I took DS to see Dr Suess’ The Loxax, which was a bit of a disaster, during the trailers they had an ad for Finding Nemo in 3D which scared him a little bit, as they showed lots of shark teeth.

Then about 15-30 minutes into the movie he got scared and started crying, he spent a fair bit of time on our laps before DH took him out the back, and he calmed down a bit. He then got upset again and I watched the last 10 minutes from the back, with him trying to escape.

This is not the first movie he has seen, previously he saw Cars 2 and The Muppets, but this was the one he was most scared of. So if you have little kids(DS is 4 1/2), I would not recommend it.

Here is DS happy before the movie, in the advertising:

The Weekend

Last weekend I didn’t get any crafting done, as on Saturday we had a Garage Sale. It was a successful time, we managed to get rid of a few things however we still have lots. If you are planning on having a garage sale, I found the following sheet from Simple Savings useful.

Then on Sunday after church we went and visited my new nephew who is now 2 months old. It was nice to get Auntie cuddles and DS enjoyed the visit, especially fishing in the dam (collecting little fish with a net) to feed the turtles.

A productive weekend

I had a productive weekend, sewing. I took 2 finished quilt tops to the professional machine quilter, picked out the quilting designs and left them there to be quilted.

I then finished the Horses quilt top. It is about 230cm square so I have decided not to put a border on it, instead I will just bind the quilt in black to bring it all together.

Sorry for the dodgy photo, it was the only one I downloaded and then realised it was a bit blurry.
